Arnica is one of the most commonly used homeopathic remedies, so if you haven’t taken advantage of it yet, I guarantee you will find it worthwhile! In my own experience, the first time I noticed its wonderful benefits was years ago after getting my foot out of a walking cast. It was the first week of teaching 5th grade and my foot was swelling up every day. By the end of the day I was using my crutches. After 4 days I thought of applying arnica gel to my foot and the next day I had no swelling at all! It never came back after that. Arnica is a first aid remedy, but it can also be applied afterwards for great benefit.
As a first aid remedy arnica can prevent bruising and pain. Last summer, without thinking, I headed down a washed out section of trail to see a beautiful lake. I slid and hit my hip on a rock. Then as I continued to slide in the dust, I caught my chin on a branch as I slid underneath a bush. It sounds like an Indiana Jones moment, but it was only about 10-15 feet. I thought my hip would be bruised from hitting the rock so I took arnica 200 c as soon as I got back to my campsite. I took one dose immediately and another one before bed. The next day I had no bruising of any kind or pain in my body. I did notice minor aching in my neck from the whiplash which was giving me a slight headache. I took a dose of hypericum 200 c for that. It was gone a half an hour later. I felt so good that my neck, which can be stiff from computer use, felt better than before!
Arnica has many other uses, including jet lag, over-exertion, and head injuries. Hypericum, as mentioned above, is also a very useful first aid remedy. In my homeopathic first aid class I will teach about these 2 remedies and 6 others that can be kept in a homeopathic first aid kit. If you are interested, sign up for my email list and I will notify you of upcoming first aid classes.
